Narrow View

Humm...... After reading this article I am even more convinced that there is no interest in increasing the job base here in the Oasis of Nevada. Why spend the money courting a new business with jobs when we can build 200-400k houses on the outside of town with no city utilities and hope California retirees come and buy. That is a really narrow prospective. Nothing against retirees, I'll be one someday, but they seem to be raising the cost of housing to the point that an average worker would have to make over 100K a year to afford to buy a house. I know the minimum wage is going up but not that much. Most of the ones I see all have motor homes and travel a lot meaning not much $$$$ going into the local economy. If we just sit and wait for the bleed off from Reno to get here it will be too late. We will not get the good solid business just the ones that can not afford to stay in Reno or can not compete and are looking for cheaper labor.

Note how the cost of buying a house is creeping back up. People do not buy houses when payments are unaffordable. $1500 a month might buy a 250K house but if interest rates get back up into double digits they will only get a 95K house. Which right now is a house that needs total repair as it is 80 years old or a 20 year old trailer sitting on a lot on a dirt road that looks like it belongs in a junk yard. Ok I'll stop whining.
