Skilled Workers

The title is linked to an article that there are not enough skilled workers to support new companies moving here. I respectfully disagree. the problem that is here and in all northern Nevada is the not that we do not have skilled workers is the fact that the companies are not paying what they should be making. Working in IT at the position I am in pays about 58K a year in Reno. I make a little more than that but the job should pay according to several job sites that track this between 68-75K. Why do our kids not stay here to work you ask? How about they can make more money and afford a house in a different State. The biggest problem with business in this current day is they do not take care of their employees and there are some employees who do not deserve to be cared for. What should a company expect from an employee? I am glad you asked. 8 hours work for 8 hours pay. No question when a little extra needs to be done and loyalty to the company. What should an employee expect? A deceit wage hopefully medical benefits and a 401K or other savings program. Does this happen? I know that it is not true with many companies because they care more about the bottom line and executives than the workers. National example is Wally world. They could provide more to their people then they do but it would hurt their bottom line so they don't. I know most of the service staff at hotels and Casinos, the life blood of Nevada, do not make much over minumum wage. It is a wonder how they afford the housing. Is there a solution yes. Is it easy and cheap No and that is why it will not happen. It is a shame too as this is not a bad place for a business but, it takes effort to entice the right kind of workers. Good step with a 4 year degree for the local College, but then where are the jobs so they can afford any of the $200,000-400,000 houses. *End of Rant*
